Foreclosure Rescue Scams
Part 8) How to make sure your Foreclosure Specialist is legit--Conduct a do-it-yourself background check
1) To view short reports that give names of people who are being charged with or who have been convicted of perpetrating foreclosure rescue scams or mortgage scams, go tohttp://www.mortgagefraudblog.com/ and http://homeequitytheft-cases-articles.blogspot.com/2007/07/criminal-prosecutions-of-foreclosure.html and http://HomeEquityTheft.blogspot.com . If you see the name of your "specialist" listed on any of these sites, your background check is done – do not hire this person! 2) Foreclosure Guru Reviews also gives you a list of people to avoid. Follow the link below. When you get to the page, the list is on the right side of the page. Name after name appears on the list. If you click on a person's name, the complaint(s) will pop up (on the right side of the page as well)http://www.foreclosures.com/www/pages/gurus_to_avoid.asp 3) There is a site called Rip Off Reports that posts consumer complaints of all types. Search this site athttp://www.ripoffreport.com/ 4) The Better Business Bureau is, of course, one of the most trusted resources for both lodging a complaint and for checking out any type of business. Find them on-line at http://www.bbb.org/ to view complaints against businesses in your area. 5) If you cannot find any background information on your "specialist", or if you cannot find someone you trust who can vouch for them, move on and find help elsewhere.
