Google cell phone – Google mobile phone "savvy shopper" app for comparison shopping
A Google Cell Phone can actually save you money.
Comparison shopping is poised to reach new heights of convenience and speed with the Google mobile phone’s “savvy shopper” app.
… This feature allows shoppers to scan the bar code of any item while in any store (in "real shopping time"). … The result?... A list of locations and prices on that item in other area locations.
And that’s not all. The results also include on-line prices for the item. Here's an example. The book “LIFE OR DEBT” in a local store was priced at $22.95. Scanning the bar code rendered many options including a deal on-line to purchase a used copy of the book for one cent.
Oh Happy day!!!!
The draw backs of the “savvy shopper” app are:
• Because the app is new (available June 2009), the library is incomplete and you run a pretty good chance of not finding your item when you scan the code.
• It sometimes misidentifies items, in one instance, confusing a bottle of margarita mix for a wireless router.
So, the bugs are not quite worked out of this feature, but there is great promise that, as time passes, as the google cell phone library grows, and as the program is refined, the google internet phones savvy shopper app will be a great tool in the belts of bargain hunters everywhere.
Other interesting Google Internet Phone apps are ...
"Enkin"… introduces a new handheld navigation concept. Enkin is basically a visualization framework for location information which can place locations on a two-dimensional map, a quasi-three-dimensional Google Earth type view, and coolest of all, overlay them onto the view streaming live out of your phone's camera.
”GeoLife”… …is a location-aware to-do list. Allowing you to pair actions on your list to locations (or types of locations) to get a reminder to buy milk when you're near a grocery store
”Locale”… lets you define your most frequented places on a map and set your phone to respond to those places in a number of different ways.
”Cab4me”…: Takes your current location and feeds it into a database of nation-wide cab companies, allowing you to order a cab pickup instantly with your current locations. Google Maps overlays also show areas of cities where you're likely to hail a cab off the street.
”BioWallet” … uses your phone's camera as an iris scanner to lock down sensitive information like account numbers and passwords on your phone, or even the phone itself.
TuneWiki”… (which is already out for jailbroken iPhones—not in the store yet, which won't be a problem with Android) looks impressive for grabbing lyrics and album art with your music.
